Doppler radar:
Doppler radar can also be used as weather surveillance radar. Doppler weather radar is capable of providing detailed weather information including detection of rain droplet movement and intensity of precipitation.It emits the waves and depending on the frequency of reflected waves it gives weather predictions. The research regarding Doppler radar has been started during World War 2.
Weather radar maps have been increasingly used in case of taking precautionary measure for saving lives of people and also these maps have been proved very useful for fishing vessels. Today’s digital radars systems provide storm tracking surveillance.When radar detects storm its speed direction and estimated time of arrival are recorded in the memory of the radar. The storm has to be of certain intensity in order to be detected by the radar. US government has set up fishing regulations to ensure that there will remain enough fish in the future. Fishing vessels can make use of weather radar maps for safe fishing.
National weather service (NWS) makes use of weather radars to issue watch reports, forecasts and warnings. There are various subsystems of Doppler radar which are used for estimation of winds, measurement of temperature and moisture etc. the weather surveillance reports greatly help to save the loss of human life due to emergencies like storms and also reduce the economic losses.
