All You Need To Know About Weather Services

USA is one of the countries which is highly prone to national disasters such as typhoons. To protect its citizens from such disasters USA has developed a highly advanced National Weather Service department.

NWS (National Weather Service):

As a sub-agency within NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), NWS (National Weather Service) has been assigned with the work of issuing watch reports, warnings, and forecasts to the general public and organizations.

NWS has four different level of operations categorized to according to current nature of the emergency. Level one of operation is the most extreme type of emergency. Operation levels two and three are for national emergencies like tropical storms and hurricanes etc. The NWS office operates for 16 hours a day through two shifts for level four type of day. NWS operates for 16 to 20 hours a day for level three type of emergency and 24 hours a day for level two or one type of emergency.

Doppler Weather Radar :

Weather radar or Doppler weather radar which works on Doppler Effect, are used by weather department to estimate the type of weather such as rain, snow, hail etc.

Offshore Marine Weather:

Weather conditions affect many offshore marine operations such as survey, exploration and other activities such as construction, production etc.

Weather forecasts are of immense importance in case of saving the human life from natural disasters. They also help reducing the economic loss. The biggest advantage of Doppler radar is to predict the velocity with which precipitation particles are moving towards or away from the radar and this helps for accurate weather forecasts.
